Healthy Addiction wins Lady's Secret

ARCADIA, Calif. - The battle that Healthy Addiction won over Downthedustyroad to win Sunday's $233,500 at the Oak Tree at Santa Anita meeting may serve her well in the Breeders' Cup Distaff at Churchill Downs on Nov. 4.

Making her final start in California before being retired this winter, Healthy Addiction raced just behind Downthedustyroad to early stretch before taking the lead. She was extended to the finish, and grew a little leg weary late, according to jockey Victor Espinoza.

The 120-pound topweight, Healthy Addiction ($3) finished 1 1-2 lengths in front of Downthedustyroad, running 1 1-16 miles in 1:43.60.

"In the last sixteenth she got a little tired, but nobody was bothering her," Espinoza said. "She'll be fit enough for the Breeders' Cup."

Hollywood Story, the winner of the Grade 1 Vanity Handicap in July, finished third, a head in front of Neuilly, who was making her graded stakes debut. Star Parade, the winner of the Grade 1 Santa Maria Handicap last February, was never a threat and faded to finish last in the field of five fillies and mares.

The Grade 2 Lady's Secret Handicap was Healthy Addiction's first start since winning the Grade 2 Clement Hirsch Handicap at Del Mar in August.

Owned by Pamela Ziebarth and trained by John Sadler, Healthy Addiction, 5, has won 10 of 22 starts and $1,032,837. She is expected to make her final start in the BC Distaff.
