Haxtun's Hustler ready now

AURORA, Colo. - Haxtun's Hustler may hold a slight edge in Sunday's $25,000 Arapahoe Park Classic. The 1 1/8-mile affair attracted 10 runners and will be presented as the eighth event on the 10-race program.

Haxtun's Hustler found his best stride late in the recent Mount Elbert and lost by three-quarters of length to Cut of Music, his main opposition Sunday. He closed willingly in that 1 1/16-mile race, his first appearance over this track. Haxtun's Hustler gained his second win against $30,000 claiming company at Lone Star on April 28, and had raced in four-consecutiive first-level allowance races prior to the Mount Elbert.

Haxtun's Hustler, conditioned by William Brownlee, will carry 118 pounds and again receive six pounds from Cut of Music in the Arapahoe Park Classic. He will have a new rider in Don Frazier.

Cut of Music led every step of the way in the Mount Elbert, his second win of the season from six outings. Cut of Music shipped here from Canterbury Park after being claimed for $25,000 on June 10. In his first of three starts here he won the six-furlong Aspen Stakes by 1 3/4 lengths. In his next race, the Kevin Eikleberry-trained 7-year-old lost by a neck to Absolutely True in the Front Range.

Cut of Music will carry top weight of 124 pounds and have leading rider Orlando Martinez in the irons.
