Hawthorne pick six hit yet again

STICKNEY, Ill. - Bettors continued to feast on Hawthorne Race Course's $50,000 guaranteed pick six Friday, when the bet was hit for the third time in as many days at this meet. One winning $2 ticket was sold on the pick six, paying $37,794.60. Pick six payoffs have varied each day despite the guaranteed pool because tax rates differ slightly depending on the venue where the winning ticket was sold.

More was bet into the pick six pool Friday than on the first two days this meet, but the $19,518 wagered was not nearly enough to cover the guaranteed payout. Still, that amount was more than double the $8,920 bet on Wednesday and up from the $13,468 wagered Thursday.

On Friday, only one ticket was still alive going into the eighth and final leg, and any horse but the heavy favorite Charming Home would have carried the pick six over. But Charming Home won by three-quarters of a length, ending Hawthorne's hope of a weekend carryover.
