STICKNEY, Ill. - Two jockeys and their mounts appeared to have escaped serious injury in an ugly looking spill in the seventh race Friday at Hawthorne.
Catch the Train, ridden by Brandon Meier, went down at the top of the stretch, rolling over Meier and tripping up trailing No More Talkin, who also fell, sending Inocencio Diego to the ground. Meier was taken to Loyola Medical Center in nearby Maywood complaining of pain in his ribs. Diego, though sore, did not require hospitalization.
Catch the Train was transported from the track on a horse ambulance, but neither he nor No More Talkin seemed to have suffered serious injury, according to Hawthorne assistant general manager Jim Miller.
Best Bets
UNCLE HARRY caught the eye with a solid late run in his local debut last time, just missing despite racing well back early in a race which featured a gate-to-wire winner; he was 2nd two back in his first try on the grass after setting the early pace, and the fact that he's versatile enough to lead or rate gives him added appeal in the finale. EDGE OF GLORY comes out of the same race as the top pick and he was in fact a half-length in front of that rival on the wire, gradually closing on the winner through the lane; certainly deserves a long look off that running line.
