Hawthorne cancels Wednesday

EmailRacing at Hawthorne was cancelled after two races Wednesday because of potentially dangerous track conditions.

Rain and freezing rain had fallen at the track Monday and Tuesday, and temperatures that dropped below 20 degrees on Tuesday night played havoc with the racetrack. The track began to thaw from beneath the surface after training hours Wednesday morning and had turned into a sea of slop by race time.

"We're going to float everything out of it, add surface back on after we scrape the rest off, and get back at it tomorrow," said Hawthorne general manager Jim Miller. "The safety's far more important than trying to make it through the race day."
