Terlani, ridden byJeff Burningham, wins the Vancouver Sun for fillies and mares.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Terlani paid $20.30 for her upset win in the $50,000 Vancouver Sun for fillies and mares at Hastings on Sunday.

With jockey Jeff Burningham keeping Terlani out from the rail in the 1 1/16-mile race, she stalked Overvalued, who posted fractions of 23.96 seconds, 47.63, and 1:12.70 over a wet-fast track. Terlani moved up to engage Overvalued on the stretch turn, was a head behind turning for home,  and edged clear in midstretch to win by 1 1/2 lengths. Overvalued held on to finish second by the same margin over Orchid’s Silver.

“I wanted to keep her in the two or three path where the track seemed a bit firmer,”  said Burningham. “I had a lot of horse the whole way.”

The final time was 1:44.67.

Terlani was claimed by trainer Frank Barroby on behalf of Sharlea Stable for $12,500 last Sept.  5. She was coming off a win in an optional $32,000 claiming race May 26.

Nice to see great horses running at Hastings Park. This season and last indicate the track is revitalizing itself; come on out and witness all the new, young faces!

Yep, to anybody at the US tracks who have older fillies & mares, bring 'em on up. We had a former $12,500 claimer win this stake and a former $7500 claimer run third! The older filly & mare division at Hastings is pretty bad right now. As happy as I am to Jeff & Frank for winning today... kind of disappointing.
