Hastings: Taylor Said wins B.C. Cup Classic easily

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Carrying 128 pounds, Taylor Said scored an easy 6 1/4-length victory over Tommy Danzigger in the $75,000 B.C. Cup Classic at Hastings on Monday.  Sent off as the heavy favorite in the five-horse field Taylor Said paid $2.80.

With Fernando Perez aboard, Taylor Said looked comfortable sitting in second while Tommy Danzigger was carving out swift fractions of 22.83 seconds, 46.00, and 1:10.21 in the 1 1/8-mile race for 3-year-olds and up. Perez gave Taylor Said his cue approaching the quarter pole, and he immediately responded. He took over the lead on the stretch turn and turning for home he was 1 1/2 lengths clear. He widened his margin while being ridden out through the stretch. Tommy Danzigger held on well to finish a length and a quarter in front of Jump Up and Kissme.

"I knew Tommy Danzigger was going pretty fast early, so I let him settle in behind him," said Perez. "He felt awesome the whole way."

The final time was 1:47.91.

Taylor Said is owned by Glen Todd and trained by Troy Taylor.
