Hastings: Monashee sails home

EmailSent off as the 1-9 favorite, Monashee cruised to her 11th straight stakes win in the Grade 3 $129,048 Ballerina Breeders' Cup at Hastings on Saturday.

With Dave Wilson aboard, Monashee went right to the front and set modest fractions of 24.06 seconds, 49.13, and 1:14.40 before coasting home in 1:50.64 for the 1 1/8 miles.

Monashee, who is trained by Tracy McCarthy, was under wraps the whole way, and her final margin of 1 1/4 lengths over the second-place finisher Lady Raj isn't indicative of how much the best she actually was.

"That was as much fun as you can possibly have,"said Wilson. "It would have been fun to ask her to run a bit, but there really wasn't any need."

Monashee earned $80,640 to bring her career total to $712,070. She is owned by Ole Nielsen.

According to McCarthy, Monashee's next start could be in the $175,000 Maple Leaf Stakes at Woodbine on Nov. 10.

"If she cools out in good shape we're headed to Toronto," said McCarthy.
