Hastings to host paddock sale

Hastings in Vancouver, B.C., will host a paddock sale for 2-year-olds and horses of racing age on Saturday, March 26.

The auction will take place at noon Pacific, with inspections beginning that day at 9 a.m. A preview day will be held Saturday, March 19, with a paddock parade and track gallop also being held at noon.

A total of 31 horses have been cataloged, featuring 11 juveniles, 11 3-year-olds, and nine older horses.

The auction is a joint effort between track staff, the British Columbia Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association, and the British Columbia Owners and Breeders Association.

“The concept is to keep as many horses as we can in B.C.,” paddock sales manager Mike Heads said. “In some cases, it will give breeders a second chance at showing their product since the 2015 [Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society] yearling and mixed sale last September.”

Print copies of the catalog will be available on the grounds during both the preview and auction days.
