Hastings: Fast pace sets up Wando Woman

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Wando Woman feasted on a fast pace to upset the $50,000 Vancouver Sun for fillies and mares at Hastings Saturday.

Wth Frank Fuentes aboard, Wando Woman trailed the field while Tierra Del Feugo and Finality Philly carved out quick fractions of 23.39 and 46.63 over a sloppy track in the 1 1/16-mile feature. She started her move going down the backstretch and despite going five wide around the stretch turn she got up to edge heavily favored Caged Mistress by three-quarters of a length.

Wando Woman paid a generous $29.80 to win. Longshot P. S. Touch Down finished third and helped spice up a $991.80 triactor. The final time was 1:44.47.

Wando Woman is trained by Cindy Krasner. She is owned by Dennis Spence, who bought the 4-year-old filly as a yearling for $12,000. She earned $30,000 to bring her career total to $115,367.
