Hastings: Evelyn’s Dancer wires in Brighouse Belles

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Heavily favored Evelyn’s Dancer paid $3.40 for her front-running win over Overvalued in the 6 1/2-furlong $50,000 Brighouse Belles for fillies and mares at Hastings Saturday.

Breaking alertly from her outside post in the seven-horse field, Evelyn’s Dancer carved out honest fractions of 22.48 and 45.64 seconds over a sloppy track that clearly favored speed.  Overvalued made a strong bid on the stretch turn, but was easily repelled by Evelyn’s Dancer. Terlani made a late move to finish third.

Ridden by Aaron Gryder, Evelyn’s Dancer posted a final time of 1:17.08.

“I had a great trip,” said Gryder. “I planned on sitting just off Overvalued, but when she broke so sharply I just let her run her race. We knew she had a lot of class, and she certainly displayed it today.”

Trained by Troy Taylor, Evelyn’s Dancer was making her first start of the year. She was the champion 3-year-old filly in British Columbia in 2012.
