VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Claresmiezie completely dominated the $50,000 Lassie for 2-year-old fillies at Hastings on Saturday.

Breaking on top with Pedro Alvarado aboard, Claresmiezie held an eight-length advantage after cruising through uncontested fractions of 22.48 and 45.04 seconds for the first half-mile in the 6 1/2-furlong feature. She opened up a 12-length lead at the top of the stretch and was never challenged while easily winning by 8 1/4 lengths over Sunnyside Gal. First-time starter Eleadora raced greenly to finish a distant third in the six-horse field.

“She broke very fast and she did the first part quite easily,” Alvarado said. “Sometimes she’ll run off in the mornings, but she relaxed nicely for me this afternoon.”

The final time was a brisk 1:17.00.

Trained by Greg Tracy, Claresmiezie paid $4.40 as the solid favorite over second choice Sunnyside Gal.
