Hasting: Herescomelucky gets up in time in New Westminster

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Herescomelucky came from slightly off the pace to win the $50,000 New Westminster for 2-year-olds going 6 1/2 furlongs at Hastings Sunday.

Saving ground with Mario Gutierrez aboard, Herescomelucky looked comfortable sitting in third behind Unquiet, who posted fractions of 21.78 and 46.07, and Century Union, who stalked the pacesetter. Herescomelucky tried to get through along the rail approaching the quarter pole but had to steady slightly. Gutierrez moved him to the three path and he gradually wore down Century Union, who had taken over the lead on the stretch turn. Lord Henry made a late move to finish third.

Herescomelucky won by 1 3/4 lengths in 1:18.94.

Herescomelucky, the second choice in the wagering behind heavily favored Century Union, paid $11.10. He is trained by Elizabeth Stolzenberg.
