ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Unification ($8.60) held Badge of Truth at bay in the final furlong to capture Monday's $276,550 at Woodbine.

Bear's Kid set fractions of 23.66 and 47.95 seconds, while being stalked by Unification and favored Seaside Retreat in the 1 1/16-mile event for 2-year-olds.

Bear's Kid dropped back abruptly at the half-mile pole, and ended up pressing Seaside Retreat and Unification on the far turn.

Unification took control at the eighth pole and prevailed by three-quarters of a length, in a final time of 1:46.50.

Badge of Truth closed nicely after being stuck in traffic on the far turn, and wound up three lengths clear of the third-place finisher, Seaside Retreat. Derby was fourth and Bear's Kid faded to fifth in the seven-horse field.

"He's uncomplicated," said Robert Landry, who rode Unification. "I could have placed him anywhere in the race, and when I asked him to kick on, he did."

Unification, trained by Eoin Harty for Darley Stable, banked $165,450 in the Grade 3 race, which was his stakes debut.

An Ontario-bred Dixie Union colt, Unification had finished fourth in a Saratoga maiden sprint in his debut, then won his maiden by three lengths in a 6 1/2-furlong maiden race at Woodbine Sept. 17.
