Hartigan part of Small brigade

Hartigan leads a three-horse entry for trainer Dick Small in the $50,000 Twixt for Maryland-bred 3-year-old fillies going a mile at Laurel Park.

Hartigan has 4 wins and 4 seconds in 10 starts, including 3 stakes wins. She won the $60,000 Pearl Necklace for statebreds at Pimlico on May 31 by 4 1/4 lengths. Her last start was a late-closing second, beaten a neck, against open company in the $70,000 Serena's Song at Monmouth Park on July 13. Jozbin Santana, who rides mainly at Monmouth and Delaware Park, rode Hartigan the last two times and is scheduled to ride again Saturday.

Inventive, who ran fifth, beaten 3 3/4 lengths, in the Serena's Song, and Pissarro, who has 2 wins and 2 seconds in 4 starts but is still eligible for second-level allowance races, complete the Small entry.

A live longshot might be Ask the Moon, who ran fourth in the Serena's Song at 7-1 but likes to win as evidenced by 4 wins in her last 7 starts. Her 88 Beyer two starts back in an optional claiming race at Philadelphia Park on June 23 is actually tops in the field this year.
