With his rival out of the picture, Huntsville was sent off at 1-5 and sat fourth while Filibuster Hanover (Matt Kakaley) overtook Boogie Shuffle (Scott Zeron) at the first quarter in 27 seconds. Filibuster Hanover would go on to click off the half in 54 4/5, and Huntsville rolled the dice first-up at that time, but his gain ended at three-quarters, which Filibuster Hanover put on the board in 1:21 flat.  Filibuster Hanover maintained the top spot around the final bend, but Zeron angled Boogie Shuffle, a 10-1 offering, to the outside in the lane, and he would go by Filibuster Hanover to win by a quarter of a length in 1:48 2/5, a new track record for a 3-year-old gelding pacer.
