Harp Star comes through in Japanese 1000 Guineas

Email

Harp Star closed from last in the final half-mile to win Sunday’s $1,820,078 Japanese 1000 Guineas for 3-year-old fillies at Hanshin Racecourse.

It was not until the final strides that Harp Star, the 1-5 favorite, looked like a winner. Jockey Yuga Kawada had Harp Star more than 15 lengths behind pacesetter Fukuno Dream, who led by as many as eight lengths.

Harp Star was guided wide entering the stretch and took the lead in the final strides, winning the one-mile race by a neck over 6-1 Red Reveur. Nuovo Record, a 29-1 outsider, finished third in the field of 18.

Harp Star, who races for U. Carrot Farm and trainer Hiroyoshi Matsuda, was timed in 1:33.30, a stakes record.

The Grade 1 Japanese 1000 Guineas was the fourth win in five starts for Harp Star, who is by Deep Impact. Harp Star has won three stakes, but the Japanese 1000 Guineas was her first in a Grade 1. The filly was second to Red Reveur in the Grade 1 Hanshin Juvenile Fillies last December.

This is one TALENTED filly. Look out Arc field. She will get a big weight break. Gives her the advantage over Just A Way, Treve, and Kizuna.

The DRF new website format is horrible, it is a step backwards. They should fire the genius who thought it up. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
