Harness: USTA's Langley appoints Social Media Advisory Committee


Following the conclusion of the U.S. Trotting Association Board of Directors’ Annual Meeting on Monday (Feb. 29), USTA President Phil Langley announced the formation of a Social Media Advisory Committee to assist in the industry’s social media initiative.

The USTA is in the third year of its partnership with Converseon, an award-winning, national social media agency located in New York City.

“We are entering a pivotal year in our social media campaign,” said Langley. “I think most of the people in our industry understand that social media is our best chance to reach a new audience and grow the interest in harness racing.

“It is time for more involvement from the people and organizations in our sport,” added Langley. “We are counting on this committee to assist us in taking the important next steps.”

Following are the members named by Langley for the new USTA Social Media Committee:

Allison Conte (Chairperson–USTA social media and publicity manager)
Tony Alagna (trainer, more than $25 million in lifetime purses)
Emily Gaskin (Hoosier Park Racing Publicist)
Nick Salvi (Gural Racetracks Stakes Consultant)
Ashley Tetrick (operator of www.tetrickracing.com)
Gabe Wand (USTA director, chairman District 4) 
Heather Wilder (Meadows Standardbred Owners Association Marketing Director)

USTA Director of Marketing and Communications Dan Leary will act as staff liaison between Converseon and the committee.

“We suggested that a steering committee could help us get greater involvement throughout the industry and help us identify the most important priorities at this critical time,” said Converseon founder and CEO Rob Key. “There are exciting opportunities and some significant challenges ahead and we are pleased to have this impressive group to assist us. We need everyone to get involved and paddle in the same direction.”

Plans for the first meeting of the Social Media Committee are underway.
