In Secret, shown here winning at Woodbine in January of this year, will be a new member of the Burke Brigade

Five-year-old Deweycheatumnhowe gelding In Secret fetched $140,000 from Ron Burke to top the 2017 Tattersalls Summer Mixed Sale that was held on Sunday afternoon at the Meadowlands.  Pacers JJ Flynn and Maxdaddy Blue Chip also went into six figures.

“He’s the only horse we came to buy,” Burke told Ken Weingartner from Harness Racing Communications. “I’m thrilled to get him.”

In Secret came into the sale off a win in a $35,000 overnight race on July 2 at Yonkers for trainer Noel Daley.  He has raced in both Canada and the United States in 2017, compiling a record of 4-5-2 from 15 starts to go with earnings of $108,595.

“I think he’s a Yonkers open trotter,” Burke added. “The idea is to keep him at Yonkers; I think he’ll be that kind of horse. If he gets a little bit better, we’ll see. Noel is good trainer, I’m just looking to maintain him and hope that he becomes a Yonkers open trotter.”

JJ Flynn, a 4-year-old Western Ideal gelding, was purchased by agent Josh Green for $102,000.  JJ Flynn, who has missed the board only once in five attempts in 2017, has two consecutive wins in overnight competition at Harrah's Philadelphia and Pocono.

Maxdaddy Blue Chip, who won in a career-best 1:49 1/5 on the Meadowlands Pace undercard last night, went to Rene Allard for $100,000. A five-year-old gelding by Sportswriter, Maxdaddy Blue Chip has won nine times from 19 trips behind the gate this year and has put away $48,860.

In total 106 horses were sold for a sum of $2,567,200 and an average of $24,218.87.
