There is no shortage of star power racing this weekend in the harness world. Nearly every top 3-year-old pacer in North America is racing at one track or another. The colt division is lead by last year's champion rookie Sweet Lou. The World Record holder for 2-year-olds (1:49) will start in one of three $105k-plus Pennsylvania Sire Stakes divisions at Pocono Downs on Saturday evening. The Ron Burke trainee will start from post five as the 5-2 morning line choice in race 12 on the 16-race program but seems likely to head behind the gate at 3-5 or lower. The Meadowlands hosts a few top second-year colts and fillies in five splits of the New Jersey Sire Stakes. A Rocknroll Dance, a winner of $863,325 at two, will make his seasonal debut in the second race. He will start from post four. Metro Pace winner Simply Business (post 1) steps on the track for his first pari-mutuel action in race five. Race 10 features an interesting matchup between the royally bred Time To Roll (post 1) and Pet Rock (Post 7), who was a sharp first over winner last week. On the filly side, $531,905 earner Pirouette Hanover (post 4) tires to make amends for a third place finish in her 2012 debut mile. Finally, older star We Will See (post 4) makes his 5-year-old debut in a $50,000 Invitational event (race 6). The earner of more than $1.2 million last year will face seven rivals. At Georgian Downs in Canada, Warrawee Needy makes his first start of the year in an elimination for the $600,000 Upper Canada Cup. Coming off a sizzling 1:49 2/5 qualifying mile, he will begin in the wager as the 3-5 early choice from post four in race six on the card. Also competing in the series is the talented Mel Mara. The Tony Alagna trainee has post two in race four. Arguably the top sophomore pacer in the country is the filly American Jewel. The Jimmy Takter-trained daughter of American Ideal-Trim Hanover was virtually spotless with eight wins in 9 starts last year before facing a season ending injury. On Saturday she begins her second year of competition in a New York Sire Stakes event at Vernon Downs. Fresh off a 1:50 3/5 qualifier at the Meadowlands, American Jewel (post 9) should be ready to roll against eight foes in the sixth race. Later on the card, Breeders Crown 2yo filly pace runner-up Handsoffmycookie makes her 2012 debut. The Scott DiDomenico trainee starts from post three as the 5-2 morning line choice in race eight. The Older Crowd at Western Fair In addition to the great 3-year-old pacing action, a few of the top older pacers are also in action this weekend. The $3.6 million earner Foiled Again (post 3) heads up to Western Fair in Canada for the Molson Pace eliminations on Friday. He is the even money early choice against five others in the second of two eliminations (race 9) on the card. His stablemate Atochia (post 4) is the 6-5 morning line favorite in the first split (race 4). He will face four others, including last year's North America Cup winner Up The Credit. The top four from each elimination will return on Friday, May 25 for the $300,000 Molson final. Live video, video analysis, news and past performances for the entire card will be available on www.drf.com.
