To Dream On, the top 2-year-old trotting filly in the sport, did her thing at The Red Mile on Thursday evening. The daughter of Credit Winner coasted around the clay oval for an easy 1:54 3/5 mile. To Dream On pulled new driver Yannick Gingras off the gate as he did his best to restrain the filly. But the pace was slow and Gingras had no choice but to let her trot to the lead just past a :29 3/5 opening quarter. Past the half in :57 4/5, Gingras could be seen seesawing the bit in To Dream On’s mouth as he attempted and succeeded in slowing her down with a :29 4/5 third quarter. He then let her out a notch and she sprinted home in 27 seconds to win with ease over Handover Belle. “I was trying to race her off the pace but they were going too slow,” said Gingras on his tactics. “I probably would have choked her down if I tried to squeeze into a hole.” Gingras, who lucked into the drive when David Miller had to drive his wife’s horse in the same race, admitted that he never asked the filly in the stretch and thought she easily could have come the last quarter in 26 seconds. To Dream On is trained by Jimmy Takter for owners Marvin Katz and John Libfeld.
