Harness Racing: Captaintreacherous wins 2013 debut in Sire Stakes at Pocono

Captaintreacherous has earned just shy of $950,000 in his career.

In what was sure to be one of the more nondramatic moments of his 3-year-old campaign, Captaintreacherous easily crushed his foes in his 2013 pari-mutuel debut at Mohegan Sun Pocono.

Coming off three qualifiers at the Meadowlands, Captaintreacherous left from post seven but waited for the dust to settle, as Twincreeks Jesse took command in a 26 3/5 opening quarter. Then the “Captain” came to call down the stretch the first time and was in charge before the half in 54 3/5.

The third quarter was a rated 1:23 1/5 before driver Tim Tetrick got Captain into gear and sprinted home in 26 3/5 to post a 1:49 4/5 final clocking, just two-fifths off his career best mark.

Trained by Tony Alagna for Captaintreacherous Racing, the son of Somebeachsomewhere has amassed 9 wins in 11 career starts. The $31,293 earned in Sunday’s Pennsylvania Sire Stakes win pushed his career bankroll a shade under $950,000.

The fastest PASS division was won by Normandy Invasion in 1:48 4/5, a track record for 3-year-old pacing geldings. The Brian Brown trainee lowered his lifetime mark by more than three seconds as driver Dave Palone scored a Sire Stakes triple.

Beach Memories (1:50 2/5) and Martini Hanover (1:49 3/5) captured the other two Sire Stakes splits.
