Harness: Free seminar for first time horse owners

The Goshen (NY) Yearling Sale, in conjunction with the United States Trotting Association, will conduct a free, introductory seminar for those considering first time horse ownership of a Standardbred on Saturday (Sept. 12).

The seminar, which will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will cover the risks and rewards of horse ownership, the various ways to get started owning a horse, costs, shopping strategies and how to perform due diligence. The educational event will be held at the Mark Ford Training Center at 90 Slaughter Road, Middletown, N.Y.

While the seminar will cover all kinds of horse ownership, including buying claimers and racehorses at public auction or private sale, there will be “hands on” instruction in conformation and pedigree, using yearlings offered in the sale, which will be held at 12 noon the following day on Sunday (Sept. 13).

The USTA will provide a free subscription to Hoof Beats, along with a credit for Pathway, the online Standardbred information system. Lunch and educational materials will also be provided at no charge.
