Harlan Street takes advantage at Mountaineer

Harlan Street capitalized on speed duel involving odds-on favorite Ravalo to capture Saturday night's $75,000 Christmas Stakes at Mountaineer Racetrack.

Jockey Scott Spieth placed Harlan Street ($6.60) in third, sitting two lengths off contested fractions of 22.60 and 46.05 seconds set by defending champion Ravalo and Nay's Tap, a 3-year-old shipper from Charles Town. Harlan Street, a 4-year-old son of Street Cry trained by Albert Skinner, made a three-wide move entering the stretch, put his head in front at the eighth pole, and drew clear by 2 1/4 lengths while completing six furlongs on a muddy track in 1:12.50.

It was the third straight stakes victory for Harlan Street, who shipped north after back-to-back scores going a mile at Delta Downs. He is also 4 fof 4 lifetime over Mountaineer's main track.

Ravalo, sent off at 2-5 after finishing second in the Grade 2 De Francis Dash in October, settled for second, a length in front of Nay's Tap.
