Happy Valley: Pablosky heads Yau Oi Handicap

Email

Pablosky, a 5-year-old Irish-bred gelding who won a handicap in April, is the 133-pound highweight in Wednesday’s $161,290 Yau Oi Handicap at six furlongs on turf at Happy Valley Racecourse in Hong Kong.

The Yau Oi Handicap is the eighth and final race on the first night of racing at Happy Valley of the 2016-17 Hong Kong racing season. The Yau Oi Handicap is the richest race on the program and drew a field of 12.

Pablosky, trained by John Moore, drew the outside post. Wednesday’s race will be the gelding’s first start since a ninth-place finish April 16. On April 6, Pablosky won a six-furlong handicap worth approximately $309,677 on the all-weather surface at Happy Valley.

All four of Pablosky’s wins on the Hong Kong circuit have been on all-weather tracks, but he did win three races for 2-year-olds on turf in Italy in 2013.

The Yau Oi field includes Travel Renyi, a 6-year-old New Zealand-bred gelding who won three times in Hong Kong in the 2015-16 season but lost his final three starts of the campaign; and Mr Bogart, who has one win in three starts in Hong Kong.

Mr Bogart is the only runner in the field with a win in his last start – a six-furlong handicap on turf June 19 at Sha Tin. An Australian-bred, Mr Bogart won three times in Australia in 2014 and 2015 and was second or third in three stakes in that country.

First post for the Happy Valley program is 7:15 a.m. Eastern. The eighth race has a scheduled post time of 10:50 a.m. Eastern.
