The Stars of Tomorrow 2-year-olds in training sale at Evangeline Downs in Opelousas, La., closed Sunday with Designer Soxx, a Louisiana-bred Half Ours filly, topping the day at $75,000.

Velton Vidrine was the winning bidder, as agent for Roy Investments, for the dark bay or brown filly out of the multiple stakes-winning Suave Prospect mare Elegant Designer. The mare is the dam of two winners from as many starters, including Grade 2 winner Designer Legs.

Bred in Louisiana by Coulee Croche Thoroughbreds, Designer Soxx is from the family of Grade 1 winner Johnny Eves, Grade/Group 2 winners Future Prospect and Peer Gynt, and Grade 3 winner Devil’s Bride. She was consigned as agent by Clear Creek Stud.

The single-session sale finished with 84 juveniles sold for revenues of $682,400, while the average sale price finished at $8,124.

“We concentrated with breeders and consigners to upgrade the overall quality of the sale and we were pleased with how the buyers responded to the top end of the catalog,” said Charlotte Stemmans Clavier, president of the sale’s administrator, Stemmans Inc., “As part of our incentive program, Evangeline Downs has created a pair of stakes races, the Star and Starlet, which, including bonuses for 2-year-olds that ran through the sales ring, feature a total purse of $100,000 each and will be contested in late August 2014.”
