Hailstorm Slew blows 'em away in Great Lady M.

Hailstorm Slew wins the Great Lady M. Stakes by 4 3/4 lengths Monday.

Hailstorm Slew blew past five overmatched rivals like a funnel cloud moving across the prairie to win the $55,000 Great Lady M. Stakes on Monday at Will Rogers Downs.

Still almost six lengths behind after a half-mile in a fast 44.29 seconds, Hailstorm Slew caught up to the horses in front of her in a hurry. She made the lead at the stretch call and ran off to a 4 3/4-length victory under Luis Quinonez. Hailstorm Slew stopped the timer in 1:09.34 for six furlongs on a fast track and paid $3.80 as the odds-on favorite in a race restricted to Oklahoma-bred fillies. Goodhearted Girl was second, 2 1/2 lengths in front of Sonic Run.

Four-year-old Hailstorm Slew was bred, is owned, and is trained by C.R. Trout, and is the latest in a steady line of talented Trout homebreds. By Munnings out of the Successful Appeal mare Successful Slew, Hailstorm Slew ran her record to 5-2-1 from 12 starts with her dominant victory Monday.

* Odds-on choice Js Pearljam beat stablemate Hey Baby by a neck as trainer Scott Young swept the exacta in the $55,000 Cinema Handicap for Oklahoma-bred 3-year-old fillies. Js Pearljam, bred and owned by Shirley Wheeler, was the 122-pound highweight and ran one mile 70 yards in 1:43.74. He paid $3.40 to win.

Baby K finished third, more than 10 lengths behind the top two in a slow-paced raced.
