Mario Gutierrez earned his 1,000th career victory Thursday at Santa Anita aboard Hot Paris Night (No. 2).

ARCADIA, Calif. – Jockey Mario Gutierrez, best known for winning the Kentucky Derby twice, won the 1,000th race of his career in North America on Hot Paris Night in Thursday’s eighth race at Santa Anita.

Gutierrez earned the milestone. He urged Hot Paris Night through the final quarter-mile of a $20,000 claiming race for maidens at a mile to win by a neck over 8-1 Woodstock Memory.

Gutierrez, who began his career in Mexico, has primarily ridden in North America at Hastings Park in British Columbia and in Southern California. Gutierrez, 30, won the 2012 Kentucky Derby on I’ll Have Another and again last year with Nyquist.
