ANALYSIS BY Mike Welsch
Seventh Race
(1) Marias Pass (2) Game On (3) Indian Fog
MARIAS PASS ran a bit greenly while third dropping in against bottom level main track types for the first time now adds blinkers looking to keep a straighter path wheeling back with similar. Looks like the best option for those taking a stand against logical choice GAME ON who holds a decided edge over these on Beyer Figs but now a beaten odds on favorite three times running and a question mark at the distance. The one to catch at another short price. INDIAN FOG switches to high percentage barn, dangerous if getting in off the AE list. Rumbletown deserves one last chance on the main after getting hung wide throughout launching career at nine furs. on grass. Barn has really heated up of late.
Eighth Race
(1) Walt's Whiz (2) Reign of Kings (3) Wild Storm Cat
WALT'S WHIZ has just missed in each of his last two tries against turf sprinters. Versatile sort has the speed to go to the lead but showed some ability to pass horses in his last. In new hands. The most logical choice. REIGN OF KINGS has improved with each and every successive start but now stepping well up off the claim and trying grass for the first time. By average turf sire Albert the Great. Cannot leave out of the equation. WILD STORM CAT has been away since June but is training fairly well across town and with a very game win in his only previous start over the surface.
Ninth Race
(1) Hebert Hall (2) Zero Rate Policy (3) Peasant
HEBERT HALL has worked well on several occasions over the local strip throughout the winter and by abo ve average debut sire Officer out of a mare who was three for ten during her racing career. Barn has had a nice stay here this winter/spring. ZERO RATE POLICY the one to beat coming off very strong debut run behind well backed Turbo Compressor. PEASANT by Awesome Agaoin out of a multiple G1 placed mare. PM works only average looking at best.
Tenth Race
(1) Ithinkihadthatone (2) Performing (3) Sovereign Crisis
ITHINKIHADTHATONE could be a sleeper in the first of three consecutive wide open turf races to close out the Pick-6. Dropped further back than usual after an awkward start, closed willingly enough returning from a lengthy vacation against high tagged conditioned claimers and lures meet's top jock today. Should come running off what on paper figures to be an honest pace. PERFORMING drew off from good group of high level starter types for his second win this winter albeit with a perfect trip. Hard to ignore although likely to be overbet off that last one.SOVEREIGN CRISIS an improving 3-year-old filly who is perfect over the local strip.
Eleventh Race
(1) Capital Market (2) Houngun (3) Gathering Cloud
CAPITAL MARKET was hung wide while turning in even effort in relatively well graded N1X outing and key race on 3/4. Might be cycling back to his two big efforts at (3) As good as any in this oujia board affair. HOUNGUN a question mark off the bench but did hold own in three fairly fast stkaes races last summer at Monmouth. Last win came against $25K starter types more than a year ago. GATHERING CLOUD has posted some high marks but reacted negatively to several of those outings and must overcome tough post at another short price.
Twelfth Race
(1) Shahadaroba (2) Sassidy (3) Diaper Dandy
SHAHADAROBA winless in 17 tries but looks loose with this bunch in the nightcap. Might not look back and again as good as almost anything in here. SASSIDY comes off a couple of improved showings since returning to grass and Lopez takes the call. DIAPER DANDY a lightly raced sort who could not overcome unlucky trip six weeks earlier. Dons shades for one of only two trainers in this race with a win thus far at the meet.
Best Bets
CHASING MOONLIGHT was involved in a three-way skirmish for the lead and saved the place behind win machine Rigby ($2.70), matching his career top Beyer first time off the claim; this appears to be a much easier pace scenario assuming another alert break from the rail. The 9-year-old TEMECULA CREEK shook out the kinks to win big second time back from a short layoff, notching best number since last summer; David Jacobson 29% with 1-7 day wheelbacks in 2012-13. OVEREXTENDED clearly out of his element on grass in first start for current connections; mild rally behind 3-for-3 Hay Shares two back.
