A poor start by 2-5 favorite Lady in Pink opened the door for Winsome to register a 1 3/4-length upset in the $75,000 Cellars Shiraz Stakes for 3-year-old fillies on the turf at Gulfstream Park. The Cellars Shiraz was the final stakes race of the 2005 Gulfstream meet, which closes Sunday.

Winsome forced the pace from the outset, had to steady when Galaxy Lady bore out around the turn, rallied to join Memories of Pa in early stretch, then edged clear through the final furlong. Lady in Pink stumbled at the break and left the gate far behind the field. After recovering, she rushed to contention along the hedge around the bend but lacked a rally through the stretch, finishing third, a neck behind runner-up Memories of Pa.

Joyous Song, Lucky Colleen, and Galaxy Lady completed the order of finish.

Winsome, a daughter of War Chant trained by Allen Jerkens for owners Irving and Marjorie Cowan, covered the distance in 56.74 seconds and paid $8.60.

"If there hadn't been trouble on the corner, she would have won by more," said winning rider Eddie Castro.
