Gulfstream takes Calder signals

EmailGulfstream Park was to be open for full-card simulcasting on a daily basis beginning Saturday. Gates are scheduled to open at 11:30 a.m.

Gulfstream received the right to offer full-card simulcasting on a year-round basis earlier this month after the Florida Supreme Court ruled unconstitutional a statute that limited simulcasting by Thoroughbred tracks within a 25-mile radius of other parimutuel facilities.

Gulfstream will take daytime signals from nearby Calder Race Course, which is running live racing through Jan. 2. Pompano Park, a harness facility 20 miles north of Gulfstream, has also signed an agreement with Calder to simulcast all the signals Calder offers during its live card.

Before the court ruling, only the Thoroughbred track presenting live racing could conduct simulcast wagering before 6 p.m. daily.

A reciprocal agreement between Gulfstream and Calder is expected to be in place when Gulfstream begins its 2008 meet Jan. 3.
