Gulfstream Park: Successful Song tries Rampart again

Successful Song has won five stakes, including the Sunshine Millions Distaff.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Itsmyluckyday won’t be the only horse Eddie Plesa runs Saturday in search of a third consecutive stakes victory at this meet.

Approximately 4 1/2 hours before Itsmyluckyday runs in the $1 million Florida Derby, Plesa will send out Successful Song in the Grade 3, $150,000 Rampart Stakes for fillies and mares at 1 1/8 miles.

Successful Song, a 6-year-old daughter of Successful Appeal, won the Ocala Stakes and the Sunshine Millions Distaff earlier this meet.

Successful Song is a five-time stakes winner but has yet to win a graded event. She finished second, eight lengths behind Awesome Maria, in the 2011 Rampart.

Successful Song, who drew post 3 in the six-horse field, may have to beat a pair of Todd Pletcher trainees in Authenticity, a 17 1/2-length allowance winner here on Feb. 14, and Ciao Bella, who is 2 for 2 over the track. Pletcher said Wednesday he is not 100 percent certain to run Ciao Bella, who could go to New York the following week for the Ruffian.

Go Unbridled, who finished fifth in last year’s Rampart, worked five furlongs in 1:00.60 Thursday morning over Gulfstream Park’s main track.

Go Unbridled, trained by Hall of Famer Allen Jerkens, has not run since finishing fourth in last year October’s Grade 3 Turnback the Alarm at Aqueduct.

One Last Dance and Call the Ten complete the field.
