HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Jockey Alex Solis finished third on both of his mounts Wednesday, but he was just happy to be riding again.

Solis, a finalist for the Hall of Fame this year, was away for five months after needing shoulder surgery.

“A five-month vacation was no fun,” Solis said Friday morning on the Gulfstream backstretch. “A month is good, two months you start pulling your hair, three months you’re climbing the walls, and by the fifth month you want to jump off the ledge.”
Solis was named to ride four horses Saturday and one on Sunday. Solis said he and his agent, Mike Kelly, have not yet decided where they’re going to be once the Gulfstream meet ends Friday.

“We’ll keep our options open,” Solis said. “I’d like to go to New York. At least I’m doing something I love instead of sitting on my sofa watching the same movies over and over.”
