Gulfstream Park: Currency Swap and Gemologist entered for Friday allowance
By Jay Privman
Email
Currency Swap and Gemologist, two of the nation’s elite 2-year-olds from last year, are entered to make their first starts of the year on Friday at Gulfstream Park in a one-mile $80,000 allowance race, which attracted a field of five.
Currency Swap, the winner of the Hopeful Stakes, is in post 3, while Gemologist, the winner of the Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes, drew the rail.
Gemologist had been pointing to the Rebel Stakes this Saturday at Oaklawn Park before this Gulfstream allowance race came up. The Rebel is expected to feature Delta Jackpot winner Sabercat, another top 2-year-old from 2011 who will be making his first start of the year.

It's not a good idea to get "high" on any Pletcher stabled horses. It's usually over before its hardly begun. Oh sure, they run fast a time or two.
|
I hope they don't try to rush Currency Swap into the Derby. I don't think it would be good for the colt and he wouldn't win anyway. Relax and get him ready for the Breeders Cup.

JP: I rec'd DRF entry for "Gem" Sat nite, was at first shocked, but after a bit thought great move, hope he runs there rather than overbooked "Rebel" rumble gang on Sat, to loosen him up at GS, and then run him in selected graded stakes in a few weeks, if he runs well n picks up some $, n healthy he is in KD gate..I am very high on him w/ UR n Creative...enjoy your insightful comments on your KD list too, what is your take? Not sure of other TP horse entered? Thanks, Don

LOVE TO RUN was rarin' to go first out in two months, so much so that he rocketed through a six-furlong split of 1:08.79 seconds - faster than Cross Traffic in the Westchester at the same one-mile distance a few days earlier; back-to-back Belmont wins last year included one rallying from next-to-last, so he may make good use of outside draw to track COLIZEO. The latter drops to same second-level condition where he won big first off R-Rod claim; reunited with Jose Ortiz, who was aboard for that score on wet track.
