She won by 1 1/4 lengths over Ann of the Dance, while it was another 1 3/4 lengths back in third to Team. Angelica Zapata ($7.40) stalked the pace in the 1 1/16-mile turf race for fillies and mares, as Miss Montreal set fractions of 25.24 seconds for the opening quarter, 49.34 for the half-mile, and 1:12.51 for six furlongs. Angelica Zapata advanced three wide into the stretch and took command through the final furlong. She covered the distance on firm turf in 1:42.57. Juan Leyva rode Angelica Zapata for trainer Ron Pellegrini. Herman Van den Broeck owns Angelica Zapata and co-bred her with Buck Pond Farm. She is a Kentucky-bred mare by Sharp Humor. Angelica Zapata earned $60,000 for her win in the Wasted Tears, which was her eighth career victory from 23 starts. Her earnings now stand at $398,070.
