Gulfstream to host South American race

The Gran Premio Latino Americano, one of the most prestigious races in South America, has been scheduled to be run next March 15 at Gulfstream Park, according to a release from Gulfstream's parent company, Magna Entertainment Corp.

The Gran Premio is restricted to horses bred in South or Central America and has rotated among various tracks.

Arrangements for the race, including quarantine procedures, are still subject to approval by the United States Department of Agriculture.

Bruno Quintana, president of the Latin American Racing Association, said in a release that moving the race to the U.S. "is an important step to strengthen the relationship between the racing industries of North and South America."
