Heiko held off an explosive late run from Backseat Memories to win the $100,000 The Vid by three-quarters of a length Monday at Gulfstream Park. It was the first career stakes win for the horse, whose trainer, Marty Wolfson, also trained the race’s namesake, a multiple graded stakes winner at Gulfstream in 1995 and 1996.    Backseat Memories was a clear second, four lengths clear of third-place finisher Ashtar. Heiko ($15.20) was in command of The Vid soon after the start, as he took the field through controlled fractions of 24.58 seconds for the opening quarter, 49.94 for the half-mile, and 1:13.52 for six furlongs. He darted clear at the top of the stretch, then withstood the bid from Backseat Memories to cover the mile and a sixteenth on firm turf in 1:42.38. Jilver Chamafi rode the winner for Silverton Hill LLC. Heiko has now won 3 of 19 starts and $138,021. He is a 4-year-old by Mr. Greeley and was bred in Kentucky by Alpha Delta Stables. The Vid, an earner of $952,216, raced for his breeder, Joseph Sullivan.
