Force Freeze, with Paco Lopez riding, wins the Gulfstream Park Sprint Championship, earning a Beyer Speed Figure of 108.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. - Trainer Peter Walder reports that Force Freeze came out of his impressive victory in Saturday’s Gulfstream Park Sprint Championship in good fashion and will now be pointed for the seven-furlong Churchill Downs Handicap on Kentucky Derby day. Force Freeze earned the highest Beyer Speed Figure of the year, 108, for his effort in the GP Sprint.

“When I heard we got a 108 I said, ‘Holy cow, we’ve got the fastest horse in the country,’ ” Walder said. “The good thing is this number isn’t too far off his previous top, so I don’t think it will kill him especially, since we’ve got plenty of time before his next start in Kentucky.”
