Gulfstream: Askbut I Won’ttell seeks rebound in Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf

Askbut I Won’ttell had a legitimate excuse when she finished 11th at 7-2 in the South Beach Stakes on Dec. 11. She bled.

Saturday at Gulfstream Park, Askbut I Won’ttell will seek a rebound in the $150,000 Florida Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf, a race in which she finished second last year.

“She did bleed the last time. That impacted her performance,” trainer Chris Block said. “And maybe I didn’t have her ready to rock 100 percent last time. She’s trained well since then and seems to be coming to this the right way. I think she’ll give a good account of herself.”

Romacaca, who is 4 for 7 at Gulfstream, returns from a five-month layoff in this spot. Romacaca had a five-race winning streak – including four stakes – before finishing third in the Ballston Spa last Aug. 27.

“I think it’s going to be important for her to settle into the race,’’ trainer Nick Canani said. “She’s been known to get keen. As long as she settles in there and relaxes well and lets Paco [Lopez] do what he wants, she’s going to be right there.”
