Gulfstream and Calder in conflict on Saturday

Email

The 10-race Summit of Speed program will run in direct conflict with a live card to be held just across town at Gulfstream on Saturday, with first post at both tracks scheduled for 12:50 p.m. It will mark the first direct conflict between the two south Florida Thoroughbred facilities this summer.

Saturday’s eight-race program at Gulfstream was drawn late Wednesday afternoon and lured a total of 56 entries. Calder officials imposed a “restricted access policy” on horses stabled at its track earlier this week, prohibiting horses who run at Gulfstream from returning without permission from racing secretary Mike Anifantis.

Both Gulfstream and Calder are scheduled to run live programs on Sunday, with entries for both those cards to be drawn on Thursday.

Don't shed any tears for Calder and churchill. Other than promoting Derby week, Churchill does nothing for horse racing. They sold Hollywood Park to a land developer, they are trying to put Turfway out of business, they are trying to run Hawthorne out of business. So, if Stronach put them out of Florida, they deserve it!

I applaud Frank Stronach for what he is doing. All he is trying to do is allow the horsemen of South Florida to earn a decent living. With Calder neglecting the horsemen, there was an opportunity and he jumped on it. If your neglecting a part of your business (Calder Race Course) and focusing on your casino, it effects peoples livilihood. Kudos Mr. Stronach.

Stronach would sell his mother for a quater. What he cares about the horsemen you can put on a pin point. He lets Ritvo the puppet do all the talking so if a problem pops up he will fire him.He has done this many times in the past.

This is good. There's no winner because if nobody goes to one track, how does 2 tracks do? The only solution is multiple year round simulcast centers with races going off every 5 minutes on multiple tracks. Inside and out; with no live patrons allowed. Think about it - if you still think this is the best gambling option.

Shame on Frank Stronach. The Village at Gulfstrem is a Big Flop. Live Summer Racing isn't going to help.

Not to sure about that. I was there this past Thursday and Saturday and it was quite busy. I will never visit Calder again. Its not in a safe area what so ever. I have only been there one time and I left after one race. Calder is so run down and I don't think CD really cares. Yes by the way I am a resident of Hollywood, Florida.
