Gremany: Danedream heads Grosser Preis von Baden

The improving 3-year-old filly Danedream, whose connections may have designs on the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf, heads a field of six entered for the Group 1, $355,000 Grosser Preis von Baden at the Iffizheim course in Germany on Sunday.

Danedream, a Lomitas filly, is trained by Peter Schiergen, a regular on the international circuit. She has won just 3 of 10 career starts, but two of those victories have come in her last three races, including a five-length win over Group 1 winner Scalo and eight other opponents in the Group 1 Grosser Preis von Berlin on July 24 at Hoppegarten. That race was contested over 1 1/2 miles, the same as the Grosser Preis von Baden, considered Germany’s premier horse race.

If she comes close to repeating her last race, Danedream should have little difficulty handling her five foes on Sunday. Among them is Joshua Tree, who was trained by Aidan O’Brien through a 10th-place finish in the Japan Cup late in 2010 before being privately sold.

Joshua Tree, who won the 2010 Canadian International at Woodbine, wintered in Qatar and had several months off before finishing second Aug. 13 in a conditions race at Newmarket for trainer Marco Botti.
