Greenwood has strong hand

EDMONTON, Alberta - An allowance race for 3-year-olds at 6 1/2 furlongs on Saturday attracted a field of six, and two of the top contenders are trained by Dale Greenwood.

Diablo Contento finished third to Rindanica in the Western Canada Handicap just before being claimed by Greenwood from Bar None Ranches for $32,000. For Greenwood, he has not finished worse than third in four starts. His best effort was a second to Oceans Seven, beaten a head, in an optional claiming race.

For his previous interests, he won for $32,000 and had a second and a pair of thirds.

Diablo Contento, a British Columbia-bred, will be ridden by the circuit's leading rider, Quincy Welch.

Greenwood also trains Shawteesh, who will be uncoupled with Diablo Contento. After winning an allowance race early in the Calgary meet, he finished third in the President's Handicap, second in the Hoofprint on My Heart, and fifth in the Alberta Derby. All those races were won by Taiaslew.

At Northlands, Shawteesh finished fourth in the Western Canada and fifth in both the Ky Alta and the Count Lathum.

Mr. Don and Catalone are both coming off wins. Mr. Don won an allowance race at 6 1/2 furlongs, and Catalone beat $20,000 claimers.

Regency Bay won at first asking at Calgary this spring. His best effort since was a third in an optional claiming race.

Completing the field is Katahaula Myst, who had a good season as a 2-year-old but has been well beaten by optional claiming opposition in his only races this year.
