Green Flash to King Robyn

King Robyn scored as the favorite in Wednesday's $78,800 Green Flash Handicap at Del Mar, notching his third stakes victory of the year.

Ridden by Alex Solis, King Robyn stalked pacesetter Swiss Lake to early stretch, reached contention with a wide rally, and won by a length. King Robyn ($6) finished five furlongs in 55.45 seconds.

"It was nice to see him settle behind horses and make a run," winning trainer Jeff Mullins said of the 3-year-old.

Swiss Lake, a 4-year-old filly, held second, finishing three lengths in front of Menacing Dennis in a field of seven.

King Robyn became the first horse in Southern California to win a stakes at each Thoroughbred meeting in 2003, having won the San Pedro Stakes at Santa Anita in March and the Harry Henson Stakes at Hollywood Park in April.

Owned by Cornejo Racing, King Robyn has won 8 of 16 starts and $309,730. Mullins credited additional time between races and the lack of blinkers, which were removed in the spring, as factors in King Robyn's improvement.
