The Greely's Conquest tour continues

Evangeline Downs newcomer Greely's Conquest, fresh off a stakes raid last month on Louisiana Downs, where he captured the $50,000 Temperence Hill Stakes, heads Saturday night's Oak Hall Stakes. The Gary Thomas trainee will take on six foes in the seven-furlong headliner, which carries a $60,000 purse.

Greeley's Conquest took most of the spring off. Prior to his latest victory, he finished a troubled fifth in an optional claiming race over the Lone Star Park turf. Curt Bourque has the call on the well-traveled 4-year-old, who is seeking his sixth win in his 14th start. Given his one-run style coupled with an abundance of early speed in this race, a victory seems likely.

Sonoma Cat, a winner at this distance in a first-level allowance at Churchill Downs in his last start, tries stakes company for the first time in the Oak Hall. Trained by Steve Asmussen, Somona Cat has a 2-2-2 record from 7 career starts. Randall Toups will ride.

Asmussen will also send out fellow Churchill Downs invader Chief Gone West. A Gone West colt, he picked up his second win in mid-May at Churchill after a fruitless string of allowance tries both there and at Gulfstream Park. In his most recent start, Chief Gone West finished second behind Sonoma Cat
