Great Minds became a stakes winner on Saturday night’s closing card at Delta Downs, where he rallied for a 1 1/2-length win over Fear the Cowboy in the $75,000 Borgata. It was another half-length back in third to 1-2 favorite Teniente Coronel.

The Borgata was for 4-year-olds and up who had started at either Delta Downs or its sister track, Evangeline Downs, in 2015-2016.

Great Minds ($13.80) settled just off the pace set by Teniente Coronel, who took the field through an opening quarter-mile in 23.59 seconds, a half-mile in 48, and six furlongs in 1:13.15. Great Minds advanced, overtook the leaders and went on to cover the mile on a fast track in 1:38.77.

C.J. McMahon rode Great Minds for Vince Wilfork and trainer Al Stall Jr.

Great Minds has now won 4 of 18 starts and $170,898. He is a 5-year-old by Stroll and was bred in Kentucky by Claiborne Farm.
