Great Lakes track report


MUSKEGON, Mich. - Sefas Rose, heads a field of six Michigan-bred females in the $45,000 Moonbeam Stakes Friday night. The Moonbeam is run at 1 1/16 miles and goes as the seventh race on the 6:30 p.m. Central card.

Sefas Rose, owned by Joan Sefa and the Estate of Farid Sefa, is trained by Brenda Hill and will be ridden by Freddie Mata, the meet's top rider. She is the 8-5 favorite in the morning line.

Tank Grrrl, a 2001 Michigan Sire Stakes divisional winner, was impressive in a prep race on Aug. 10, winning in her season debut by more than seven lengths. Jockey Luis Martinez was named to ride Tank Grrrl.

Facing Sefas Rose and Tank Grrrl are Circle the Globe, Mary Doser the rider; Emmies Esperanza, Felipe Santos; Empress Livia, Jeff Faul; and Sweetwater Promise, Joe Judice.

* Judice had a big weekend, winning two stakes races, both for juveniles. He rode Zosia's Genius to a four-length win in Friday's Temptress Stakes. On Saturday he rode Heza Mountain Man to victory in the Little Ones Stakes.

* Mata has opened a big lead in the jockey standings, leading Judice 116-106 through 80 days of racing. On Monday he rode four winners, including impressive first-time starter Blue Magnolia for trainer Buddy Mullins

Mullins had to miss the race as he was admitted to Mercy General Hospital for treatment of an arm injury.
