Great Lakes track report

Trainers Ronnie Allen and Gerald Bennett dominated the stakes this past week at Great Lakes Downs. Allen saddled Its His Time, owned by the Volar Corp., for a 2 1/2-length win in Monday's $50,000 Wolverine Stakes over Above the Wind, whom Allen trains for the Hamco Group LLC. Bennett checked in third with past Michigan champion Demagoguery, owned by Mary Mazur.

Mike Allen, son of the trainer, rode Its His Time, who paid $6.80.

In a first at Great Lakes Downs, Bennett's charges ran one-two-three in Sunday's $50,000 Larkspur Stakes. Bucky's Prayer, owned by Mary Bennett, was a four-length winner under leading jockey Terry Houghton. Deb's Favoite Gift was second for Thomas Vanderhyde, and Gold Ginny was third for Liz Weber. All win, place, and show mutuels paid $2.10.

Bennett, who was in second place in the trainer standings last week, charged to the fore, now leading Bob Gorham 22-17. Bennett won four races, including the early daily double, on Tuesday's card. Gold 'n Plenty ($13.40) and Stylish Factor ($4.80) combined for a $41 double payout. Rainbow Angel won the fifth at $27.60, and Coogamonga ($6.20) accounted for the eighth.
