Great Lakes rider suspended

Jockey Jeff Faul has been suspended pending his appearance before the Great Lakes Downs board of stewards after they determined that there is "credible evidence" that he was in possession of an illegal electrical device when he won the sixth race on Aug. 24 at Great Lakes.

Faul maintains his innocence in the matter.

Steward Jeff Dye said the hearing, originally scheduled for Tuesday, was postponed until next week. He declined further comment on the case and said that the incident was under investigation by Michigan's Office of the Racing Commissioner.

Faul, 38, won aboard Run for You in the $10,000 claiming race for nonwinners of three races. Run for You was the second choice in the wagering and paid $7.20 after winning by 1 1/2 lengths.

At some undisclosed point of time following the race, an electrical device was found on the track by a maintenance worker. The stewards declined to comment when asked why they believed the device belonged to Faul.

The purse is being held, and both Run for You and the runner-up, Lil Brother Slew, were ordered to be treated as winners by the racing office regarding future entries.
