Great Lakes: Pair of restricted stakes

West Virginia shipper True Kiss and a strong entry from trainer Gerald Bennett's barn head the competition for a pair of restricted stakes at Great Lakes Downs.

Each race is worth $42,500. They will be contested at one mile and are restricted to the 3-year-old progeny of the 2001 Michigan Thorough-bred Owners and Breeders Assoc-iation stallion season auction.

True Kiss, making her first start for trainer Scott Sowle, is the leading contender among five fillies entered for the Joy Stakes. She started the season racing at Oaklawn Park and has two allowance wins this year, both of them sprints at Mountaineer.

Trainer Bob Gorham has the stable coupling of Dot Your I's and Tickle Bug. Dot Your I's most recently crushed conditioned claimers by 8 1/4 lengths going a mile.

Timeza Ticking and Loot Tooten Trudy round out the field.

Six colts and geldings will line up in the Pride Stakes, led by Bennett's coupling of Demagoguery, a two-time stakes winner this season, and Gold Return.

Demagoguery, the beaten favorite last time out in the Michigan Sire Stakes, was elevated to first via disqualification in the Mackinac Handicap and drew off in the seven-furlong Spartan Stakes in July. Terry Houghton has the mount.

Also in the race are Bonafide Rock, Dangerous Guy, Demolition Zone, and Blackberry Beau.
