Great Lakes: Muskegon Classic

MUSKEGON, MICH - Secret Romeo will put his five-race winning streak on the line when he faces nine rivals in the $50,000 Muskegon Classic Handicap at Great Lakes Downs.

Secret Romeo, one of only two 3-year-olds in the one-mile race, carries second highweight of 113 pounds but is the highweight on scale. Trained by leading conditioner Gerald Bennett, Secret Romeo has won the Dowling and Lansing stakes, the Spartan Handicap, and an allowance race here, plus a stakes race at Sportsman's Park. Last year, he accounted for the Michigan Futurity at Great Lakes.

The top Michigan-bred runner in training, Secret Romeo gets the services of the top jockey in Michigan, Terry Houghton.

Lunar Shadow, at 115 pounds, is a 5-year-old who will ship in from Arlington Park for trainer Anthony Mitchell. Randy Meier will ride Lunar Shadow, who was off from last August until June 17, when he finished second in an allowance race at Arlington. Most recently, he weakened to finish fifth in his first try on the turf.
